This message magically appeared in the mail box, from Nancy K Zala, so I'm posting it up here verbatim. They are located in Porbandar, India, and it sounds like they have a juicy place out there. We'd like to welcome the Osho Anand Sannyas Ashram to the World of Sannyas.
Tan tararaa!
1. Name of center: Osho Anand Sannyas Ashram
2. Address: Madhavpur, Ghed, Porbandar, Gujarat, India 362230
3. Contact Person: Ma Veet Asakti
4. e-Mail: osho501_ad1@sancharnet.in
telephone: 91-286-72551
2. Anand means bliss
3. It is possible to come and stay; at first three days, then we’ll extend depending on your situation and program.
4. Events happen 4 times a year and there are daily programs
5. Meditation camps are about 200 in number of attendees, but we have gone up to five hundred. Events range from 50 to 100 attendees and include reiki masters who visit and give program and trainings, ayurvedic programs, lecdutre series on the original texts of various works such as vigyan bhairav tantra sutras, bhagavad gita, kahil gibran, signatures on the water, zen flesh, zen bones, celestial influences, the making of a soul, meetings with remarkable men, patanjali yoga sutras, tantra sex and spirituality, and so forth There are programs on pranayama, and yogic exercises also and each year a children;s program this year April 22nd tailored for the Indian families in the area and their kids. The water is quite good here, no problems as it has traces of chlorine added and you can substitute with coconuts and other products.
Any spiritual group is welcome to give programs with permission of the overseer.
5. About 45 people live permanently, various age groups.
6. There are jobs available for cooking, chopping vegetables, sweeping and maintenance, stone work, sign painting, cleaning the Buddha hall, helping with filling the water, even helping make the new swim pool and various constructions are going on also, if you have skills. etc.
9. There is no mandatory fee, but usually 50 rs., about a dollar, per day. Some people give more, or less it is your privilege.
9. You can visit anytime, but the monsoon comes from June 15th to August end, and usually last only a few days of strong rains. Accomodations vary in type from the very rough with only a lightbulb and a mat on the floor to attached bathrooms and fans and running water. There is a public water ***** swim pool and the run off has been set up for cloth washings too. You can also swim in the pool or the ocean at non-peak sun times as you like. Cars and taxis can be rented for excursions to neighboring towns, and public transporation is available by bus also from the airport and train station in Porbandar, an hour or so away. You can walk from the bus to the ashram, or take a rikshawtaxi depending on your luggage and legs. There are handcrafts nearby as well as splashy textiles, and art pieces as well as a fresh fruit bazaar also.
10. Swami Brahma Vedant is the main overseer and Ma Anand Hansa is the President.
11.People get up early and start work in the kitchen, chop vegetables, and make chappatis over the open wood fire. Everyone has tea
and a kind of snack called mamra, and by 9:30 it is done. Then everyone goes for bath and cleaning clothes and home. At 11:30 there is a lecture in the Buddha hall on the topic of gurjieffian school at present that last for an hour. It is in gujarati, and is translated from an English medium book. There is a large library here also for those who wish to research or learn from texts, although the oral medium is favored over the written one. Lunch is at 12:30 and is the usual tasty fare of chappati, dahl, vegetable and rice with a lightly cooked salad called “sambar” and buttermilk. You can make your own food but it is not recommended and there is bottled water available. It is best to bring rupees in cash with you as the nearest cash machine is quite far away.
After lunch, people rest (do their own dishes) and at 4pm there is tea. People can do kundalini meditation if they like, or share in a discourse in the main hall. Many people meditate on their own also. 6pm many people go to the ocean for beach coming or meditation or a nearby farm and watch the sunset. There are a lot of children who come on the weekends also, and some live here. You can go to the nearby coconut farms and sit for drinking coconuts, or take long morning or evening walks, and explore the nearby bazaar. Evenings there is a lecture again from the readings, from 8:30 until 9:30 or so, and then people sit quietly or prepare for sleep. You can also do nothing, if that is your space.
12. The buddhafield here is very independent, there is time and space to do whatever you choose without any force or structure. It has been built up from a rocky farm land to a great expanse of gardens and small residence with great care from a Freedom Fighter’s permit back many years ago. It retains its Indian flavor, what osho would call the “flowers” of its culture, and that gives it an unsual bridge from the heritage of music and dance and song to the present. You can move within the ashram structure or you can make your own meditation or even trainings here. There are facilities for 200 guests, and many therapists have come here on break from their work in other centers. It has an atmosphere for advanced meditation. But is also good for te beginner. There are several doctors on the premises, allopathic and homeopathic and creative arts is welcomed. Any questions about practical work, meditation or personal problems can be answered either among the friends, or with Swami Brahma Vedant and Ma Anand Swati who has a grasp of the English, hindu, gujarati languages.
As with all places it remains mysterious and somethings can only be experienced upon your own exploration, inner and outer. We normally do not “advertise” but do inform as is needed.
I is good to call to make a special lodging invitation. You can fly in from Mumbai or Poona to Rajkot and take a taxi here or a std bus if your back is good. The best is to take the saurastra express from Mumbai and sleep overnight on it, get off in Porbandar and rent a taxi for three or four hundred rupees (you have to pay round trip fare on the taxi). The very best for the pampered, is to fly on Jet Airways from Mumbai to Porbandar and then take your taxi. There are loads at the airport so no problem. If you are already in India, the porbandar train station is the best or the Porbandar airport and many people just rough it on the bus. There are no disturbance in this area of a political or inter-religious nature.
