MEDITATIONS: Mysteries of master-disciple relationship
Swami Chaitanya Keerti
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ashad Purnima, dedicated to the Guru, celebrates the master-disciple relationship of highest love on the earth. All religions observe this relationship in their unique way.
Osho talks about Sufis who have an interesting story highlighting this relationship. Sufi Master Junnaid, a seeker, used to tell his disciples, “When I met my master, he never looked at me for three years. But I was persistent. I stayed there right in front of him.”

After three years the master looked at him for the first time. That was the recognition that he was not a student, but a disciple. A student would have got lost in three years; no student can stay that long waiting just for a look. Then another three years passed and he never looked again.

After three years the master looked again and smiled. His smile cut through the heart of Junnaid, who wondered why he had smiled. But the master did not give him a chance to ask. He started talking to other disciples. After another three years, he called him and kissed his forehead. “My son, now you are ready. Now you can go and spread the message.”

But he hadn't been given any message. He couldn't figure out what the message could be. But if the master was urging him to go, he would have to. So, touching his master's feet, Junnaid left for his mission.

A master kissing the devotee is a declaration that the merger (between the master and disciple) has taken place. Osho explains that a spiritual seeker passes through three stages in life — student, disciple and devotee. The student is unconscious. The disciple starts becoming conscious. The devotee is so conscious that he cannot be conscious of his consciousness.

It has to be a recognition from the master because from the devotee the distance between himself and the master is nil. From the devotee one grows into a master, but it is a spontaneous and natural growth.

Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra pay a singing tribute to their Guru of Life: Osho

New Delhi: July 11
“Our father is our Sangeet Guru, but Osho is our Jeevan Guru, the master of our life, who gave us a new vision of life that enriched our music. As musicians we learnt from him how to be ego-less. The more we became ego-less, the more our music attained depth and refinement”, said the renowned vocalist Rajan Mishra, while inaugurating Guru Vandana Week at Osho World Galleria, Ansal Plaza, New Delhi last evening.

“Whenever I had any problem in my life, I would open any page in any of Osho books—and you will not believe this—I found solution there. It was simply amazing. We are grateful to have this opportunity to pay a tribute to Osho with flowers of our songs”, he added.

Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra launched a MP3 CD of Osho’s ten discourses on Mystic Dadu—Sabai Sayane Ekmat. On this auspicious occasion, the duo were presented with a beautiful painting of their own picture created by a renowned artist Ms Bindu Popli, who is also an Osho disciple.

The Mishra brothers sang a few melodious songs in praise of the Guru and enthralled the meditative listeners assembled at the galleria. The song "Sadho Aisa Hi Guru Bhave" touched people’s heart while the last song about Kare Kajarare Badra…in raga Megh Malhaar made the listeners totally
blissed out.

Swami Upanishad, a very famous Asian Rockstar, known as Shoukichi Kina from Okinawa, Japan, also came during the Guru Vandana Week and visited the galleria and Oshodham. He was a special guest at the Dialogue of Civilizations jointly organised by UNESCO and the Govt of India and inaugurated by Prime Minister atal Behari Vajpayee.

Guru Purnima is celebrated by disciples in reverence towards all the enlightened masters of the past and present. Osho says: “And this Guru Purnima Day is the day of all the Buddhas, all those who have become aware. In their remembrance, become aware. …When you die in your Master as a man,
you become divine. …A Master is a death and a resurrection. This day of Guru Purnima is a day of death and resurrection. It is no ordinary day -- it is very symbolic. …This death into a Master is what makes a man a disciple. It is no ordinary relationship; it is the only extraordinary relationship in the world. All other relationships are ordinary. All other relationships are part of the world. Only this relationship is not part of the world -- it takes you beyond. It is a golden bridge from the visible to the invisible, from the material to the divine, from the known to the unknown, from death to deathlessness. When you are listening to me – These words are not mine, these are the words of all the Buddhas. These words have nothing to do with me. I am no more here. I am functioning only as a hollow bamboo. These words are of all the Buddhas -- past, present and future, too. Because the message is the same, it is always the same, it is an eternal message -- Sanatan Dharma. It is an eternal message.
